The concept was to maintain as much of the existing building as possible, working within the original elements of the house and retaining its authentic natural materiality: pastel tones, lime paints, layers of delicate wall decorations. The renovation introduces just those essential interventions necessary to make the house – an old grocery and dance hall that has been abandoned for over fifty years- habitable.
Materials are the main elements of the new work. The project focused on the treatment of the wall surfaces. The layered existing surfaces have been preserved as much as possible.
Where necessary we used a lime plaster with a neutral color manually applied with particular care. The dialogue with the original walls gives a soft character and unity to the rooms.
